I remember the first edition of the Vogue Fashion's Night Out in Milan, in 2009. There was something magical and glamorous in the streets of the Quadrilatero: the people that normally attend via Montenapoleone and its side streets were all gathered together in one location, to give their contribution to an evening born to celebrate the amazing world of fashion.
Yesterday, on the contrary, the only thing I could notice was the huge amount of people concentrated on grabbing drinks anywhere. If the purpose of the VFNO was originally to open the fashion world to common people, now it seems that the main goal is to open the bars. Drunk teenagers, congested streets and empty glasses left in front of holy temples like Cartier windows are the imagine of what this event has become in just a couple of years.
Last but not least, the proposals for the evening were quite deceiving. Probably, the most interesting one was the free Royksopp concert that took place in Patrizia Pepe boutique in via Pontaccio, surely a great occasion for those who love the band. The new concept mall Excelsior opened its doors too (for those who were brave enough to queue in front of the entrance).
The positive thing is that, far from the chaos, little corners of style and craftmanship were like sparkling diamonds in the night. A perfect example was Gianluca Saitto's atelier located in 22, via Ponte Vetero. Gianluca Saitto's talent is already known to my readers, since he collaborated with me for the contest promoted by ItFB a year ago (here you can see the pictures with his marvelous creations).
Yesterday evening the designer presented a preview of his collection for the Fall/Winter season. Gianluca's abilities in reinterpreting the decadent taste meets now a rock attitude (for example in his version of the iconic biker jacket), as well as the intent to use new materials also for classic long dresses. The result is something absolutely breath-taking. I look forward to seeing his proposals for man and, of course, to having one in my wardrobe.

Mi ricordo la prima edizione della Vogue Fashion's Night Out a Milano, nel 2009. C'era qualcosa di magico e affascinante per le strade del Quadrilatero: le persone che frequentano normalmente via Montenapoleone e le sue traverse erano tutte riunite in un unico luogo, per dare il loro contributo ad una serata nata per celebrare il fantastico mondo della moda.
Ieri, al contrario, l'unica cosa che ho potuto notare è l'enorme quantità di persone concentrate sull'accaparrarsi drinks ovunque. Se lo scopo della VFNO era in origine quello di aprire il mondo della moda ai non addetti ai lavori, ora sembra che l'obiettivo principale sia quello di aprire il bar. Adolescenti ubriachi, strade congestionate e bicchieri vuoti lasciati davanti a templi sacri come le vetrine di Cartier sono l'immagine di ciò che questo evento è diventato in appena un paio di anni.
Last but not least, le proposte per la serata erano abbastanza deludenti. Probabilmente, la più interessante è stato il concerto gratuito dei Royksopp che ha avuto luogo nella boutique Patrizia Pepe di via Pontaccio, sicuramente una grande occasione per chi ama il gruppo. Anche il nuovo concept store Excelsior ha aperto le sue porte durante la serata (almeno per i sufficientemente coraggiosi da mettersi in coda all'ingresso).
La cosa positiva è che, lontani dal caos, piccoli angoli di stile e artigianato sono stati come scintillanti diamanti nella notte. Un esempio perfetto è stato l'atelier di Gianluca Saitto, situato in via Ponte Vetero 22. Il talento di Gianluca Saitto è già noto ai miei lettori, dato che ha collaborato con me per il contest promosso un anno fa da ItFB (qui potete vedere le foto con le sue meravigliose creazioni).
Ieri sera il designer ha presentato un'anteprima della sua collezione per la stagione Autunno / Inverno. L'abilità di Gianluca nel reinterpretare il gusto decadente si unisce ora a un attitude rock (per esempio come nella sua versione dell'iconica giacca biker), così come l'intento di utilizzare nuovi materiali anche per i classici abiti lunghi. Il risultato è assolutamente mozzafiato. Non vedo l'ora di ammirare le sue proposte per l'uomo e, naturalmente, di averne una nel mio guardaroba.
